Barbara has special interests in attachment and complex trauma and has experience working across the lifespan in public and community settings. Barbara has worked with adults of all genders with personality disorders, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, alcohol, drugs and other related issues, and with children (and families) with emotion regulation difficulties, disrupted attachments, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other concerns.
Barbara works from a Psychodynamic framework and integrates Attachment, Schema, Interpersonal, Cognitive and Mindfulness-based therapies in her work with individual clients. Developmentally informed, Barbara will work empathically with clients to understand how relational patterns and concerns have been influenced by early life experiences and significant life events. She aims to assist clients in developing a stronger and more compassionate sense of self and new ways of being in the world with others. She is responsive to her clients and flexible in her work, placing great importance on creating a safe space for clients to explore and make sense of their life narrative.
Barbara completed a Double Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Counselling, a First Class Honours in Psychology, and a Master of Clinical Psychology at Edith Cowan University. She is also a Sessional Academic (teaching and research) in both Psychology and Counselling and across the School of Arts and Humanities. She has also worked for The Centre for Learning and Teaching and within Kurongkurl Katitjin, ECU’s Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research.
Barbara’s research interests centre around intimate relationships, primarily in the areas of attachment, socio-cultural norms, intimate partner violence, sexuality, sexual education, and consent. Barbara is passionate about and committed to improving outcomes for people with mental health concerns and students alike.
Aside from psychology, Barbara values spending time with her family and friends, listening to a wide variety of music, and enjoying all that nature has to offer.
