David Parrick
Senior Clinical Psychologist
BPsych (Hons), MAppPsych (Clinical)
Days of Practice: Monday
David is a Clinical Psychologist who completed his training at Murdoch University. He came to psychology later in life, having spent 20 years in various roles in government and not-for-profit organisations. He has a Master’s degrees in Applied Psychology (Clinical), and Human Resource Management, and undergraduate degrees in Science, Business and Economics.
He works with individuals from late adolescence onwards and particularly enjoys working with individuals who are ‘stuck’ while seeking change and those who can’t see a way forward from their current difficulties. With a focus on helping them to develop skills and strategies to improve their life.
David sees people with a wide range of issues including ADHD, trauma (PTSD and cPTSD), depression, anxiety (phobias, social and generalised anxiety), worry and rumination, and men’s health (including sexual health). Additionally, he works with adolescents and young adults with conduct issues who are in, or at risk of, contact with the justice system.
Therapeutically, David endeavours to provide a safe, non-judgemental environment for people to explore their concerns, and his practice is LGBTQI+ affirmative. To assist people in developing insight and techniques for coping, he uses a range of evidence-based approaches, selecting the technique that is best suited to the individual and their reason for attending. He has significant experience in the delivery of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for PTSD; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
He also uses mindfulness-based techniques that derive from the Buddhist meditative tradition, which has been shown to be very useful for a range of patients. These techniques allow the individual to be present during therapy, even while discussing difficult or distressing experiences.
