Dr McCarthy has experience working with both older adolescents and adults across a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, attachment and relationship challenges, alcohol and other drug use, trauma, childhood abuse, and sexual assault. She has a particular interest in women’s health and is LGBTQIA+ affirmative. Sharon aims to create a safe and collaborative space, where individuals are able to share their concerns, and gain insight into how various events, experiences, and interpersonal interactions have affected them as a result of the meaning and sense they make of it.

Dr McCarthy embraces an integrative approach to working, drawing on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Schema Therapy.

Away from psychology, Dr McCarthy has a passion for watching AFL, particularly the Eagles, hanging out at the beach, reading, and experimenting on her family with creative vegetarian cooking ideas.
